How We Learn
Heathfield House offers a wide range of both structured and free play experiences and activities all based on the accepted principal of learning through play. The day is organised into two curriculum based sessions (am and pm) which provides children with the opportunity to participate, regardless of whether they have a full or part time place.
We aim to provide a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere for all children, their families, friends, staff and visitors. Our curriculum provides learning situations to meet the needs of individual children whilst giving equal opportunity for all children. The children are encouraged to respect the feelings, beliefs and cultures of others and activities are planned to acknowledge and celebrate a range of religious and cultural festivals throughout the year. Although our activities have a degree of structure, our approach is flexible and is tailored to suit the needs of each individual child. We also aim to provide an atmosphere where parents and guardians are involved in nursery life and social events.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the framework which guides the care and education for children from the age of 0 to the end of their 5th year. It is followed throughout nursery and will continue throughout Pre School to the end of your child’s reception year in main stream school. We observe and monitor children’s progress whilst they are with us in all the areas of the EYFS through an online “Learning Journey” which begins when they start with us. Parents and carers can access this at any time and also contribute, if they wish. Staff plan for children in the moment so they not only ensure children are reaching their next steps but they are doing so in a way which interests them and caters for what they like to do or play at nursery.
We hold regular parents evenings to discuss children’s progress and have an open door policy so parents can speak to staff or management at any time. This ensures parents play an active role in their child’s development. Once your child finishes Pre School with us, we pass on this Learning Journey to your child’s school. The Learning Journey contains observations and photographs, and despite being and important insight into your child’s development, it is also a lovely diary of all the activities and happy memories created whilst in our care.
